Squat When You Pet!

If you have a friendly dog, or even a cat, available to you, sometimes they appreciate you squatting down to their level so they can greet you properly. Whether this is true or not, I don't know. What I do know is that I like dogs and squatting is good and natural for you. So, my advice would be, the next time you find yourself playing, saying hi or even just walking past that friendly animal that wouldn't mind a head scratch, go ahead over and sit yourself down in a proper squat position. In this way, you can distract yourself with play and get all the benefits that I say.

Squatting is something that we do naturally as children and grow out of as our muscles, bones and joints deteriorate. The old saying “use it or lose it comes to mind.” We can prevent tissue deterioration/break down and even build muscle tissue, ligament strength and joint mobility. This is a great way to incorporate a greater range of motion within your day without putting in too much effort and in fact deriving some pleasure and relaxation from it. The dog is the queue, pet/play is the action and the reward is the physical well-being associated with a stretch and the mental well-being associated with petting a dog.

Until next time guys, #MakeItAHabit
